For my undergraduate capstone exhibition, I wanted to highlight the places I’ve been over the past year. This exhibit spotlights my home in New England, and my travels to Oregon and New Mexico.
Conceptually, my work has a variety of different meanings. Using my emotions has always been a staple part of my creations, along with inspiration from music and film. More recently, I’ve been inspired by the places I’ve been and things I’ve seen. I’ve always been attracted to different forms of architecture and design. With this body of work, I was inspired by my home and most recent travels around the country, and combine photography and pen drawings to display the most beautiful parts of the places I’ve been.
Process-wise, I enjoy using straight lines and extreme detail. Having a perfectionist mindset is helpful in focusing on the very last detail. I want the viewer to be able to imagine themselves within the drawings themselves.
With these pieces, I hope to inspire others to travel and explore themselves. No matter if it’s a mile down the road or across the country, there’s always something out there to be discovered.
