Artist Statement
Mental health has played a large part in the art community for centuries. Van Gogh, Munch, and many of the greats struggled with mental health disorders. I have had many struggles throughout my life as well, and creating art has been a consistent outlet for me to alleviate the busyness of life. Struggling with a sense of self and identity being an artist, experimenting with different mediums and concepts often leads to a new love of creating, or a downward spiral into self doubt and existential dread. I have used a variety of mediums throughout my life, and un-training my brain and working more free has been a difficult yet satisfying journey.
Conceptually, my work has a variety of different meanings. Using my emotions has always been a staple part of my creations. I am also heavily influenced by music and film, and the effort that goes into creating sets and lighting displays. More recently, I’ve been inspired by the places I’ve been and the things I’ve seen. Architecture is a big aspect I look for while exploring new places, and even looking closer in the places around me. I make art in hopes that the viewer will get their own inspiration to explore themselves.
